How to Avoid Death by a Million Papers – Jessica Shepherd
I choose where to place my awareness,
What is worthy of my precious presence is determined only by me
When the fire alarm du jour sounds;
When another inconvenience and trouble threatens my peace,
Again
Do I want to die from a million little pieces of paper?
…a little annoyingly uncomfortable stuff that for some reason, that’s all. to keep. coming.?
(And does any of this really matter to me? Really?)
To re-anchor my awareness in the ground, the soft, cold grass
remembering those I love,
Yes, instead of allowing IT to move me,
I decide not to let what’s “out there” carry me around
All that I love and value,
For my awareness is my ship,
Sweet gesture- a kindness towards me,
At the same time,
~I stop everything else~
So that I can sail my ship away from the stormy weather,
And back to the grace, ease and peace that I am
in this bright peace
i will soon find out
The weather can’t find me anymore, no more
dark clouds go somewhere else
Anxiety, the irritation that once followed me,
… my awareness can’t be controlled
When I am in command of my awareness.
