On this day in 1945 the United States exposed a demon to the world
by Robert Wilkinson
77 years ago America ended a war through mass murder and took out the nuclear demon on our planet. Today we remember Hiroshima.
Born out of Nazi research on heavy water, on August 6, 1945, the US dropped the first atomic bomb in history on Hiroshima to prove it would do anything to “win” WWII. While ending wars is always a good thing, the way WWII ended highlighted the horrors of the nuclear threat.
Once out of his cage, the nuclear demon begins an arms race that came close to blowing up the planet during the Cold War. What most people don’t know is how close humanity has come to total annihilation through psychopaths with access to nuclear arsenals and the political fanaticism of “mutually assured destruction”. And given the current state of relations in our world, this should never happen again.
I can’t say that no one would have come up with nuclear power if the Nazis hadn’t conducted their experiments, but I must consider the fact that nuclear weapons were originally a Nazi concept. That seems like a bad thing, regardless of whatever “good” turns out to be from nuclear technology. Anything that is totalitarian cannot be a good thing for our fragile earth and its creatures. Weapons of mass destruction are bad for all living things.
So today please take a moment to meditate on the 90,000 people who died in an instant, incomprehensible because of the most horrific force other humans have ever exerted on humans. About the same number of people died of radiation poisoning in the following 4 months. A pathetic way to die, that kind of inhuman madness should never happen again.
I personally affirm that as soon as possible nuclear everything will be removed from this earth forever, and until that time, there can be no dissemination of nuclear energy anywhere on earth in any way. Ban on nuclear weapons and power plants. No more atoms!
