Mars in Gemini: 2022-2023 | Astrodispatch – Astrology on the Web

I wrote about Mars entering Gemini in last week’s update but this is a significant enough event that it deserves its own designation. Mars entered Gemini on August 20, 2022 EDT and due to its retrograde cycle will remain in Gemini until March 25, 2023. In various ancient traditions, Mars is considered a malefic planet by astrologers because of its association with violence, but Mars is essential for physical and mental health as it inspires and motivates us to action. Mars helps us to identify our needs and desires and make a strategy to get there. I want to say that without Mars we would have no reason to wake up in the morning. Mars is a primary motivator.

The sign Mars passes through describes the filter through which Mars will operate during that time. Gemini ruled by Mercury is the epitome of thought and information – it is hungry for knowledge and longs for a variety of experiences to maximize understanding. For this reason, discussions with Mars in Gemini are likely to have more fluidity and this can apply to things like peace talks as well as conversations in our personal lives.

In Gemini, Mars can lose its focus – too many things become interesting and Mars’ creative power is weakened through diffusion into multiple avenues of action. We may feel like we’re spinning our wheels and doing too little, but the power of Mars in Gemini lies in its ability to open our minds to many different ideas and ways of thinking.

Mars was retrograde for the last time in 2020-2022 and at that time Mars was in its own Aries, which caused a lot of trouble. Mars wasn’t alone in the troubling planet category—we also had a Saturn/Pluto conjunction with seven retrograde planets and a constellation of Capricorn. While Mars is in Gemini, it will interact harmoniously with Chiron, helping to heal difficult situations, and with Saturn to add structure and wisdom to all of our actions.

There will also be some challenging times, with Mars in a strong square to Neptune between mid-October and mid-November, ending just before transitioning into Cancer in late March 2023. Neptune is transcendent and magical, but the confusing and confusing and difficult interactions between Mars and Neptune can also coincide with events that involve deception and can sometimes be disastrous. Typically these Mars/Neptune contacts last only a day or two, but with Mars located within a few degrees of Neptune’s square this cycle will last about 30 days, right around the time of the US midterm election. I am not saying that disaster will happen, but no astrologer needs to say that we should be prepared for massive confusion at that time.

In any case, while Mars has been in Gemini for so long, we can use it to activate all kinds of Gemini projects: learning a new skill, writing a book, going back to school, starting a walking group. Do it, learn a new language, get in the car and explore your neighborhood, chat with your siblings, play a new instrument or two… and most of all, if you have trouble concentrating. Avoid getting disappointed. Under the influence of Gemini this is a feature and not a bug!
