New Light on Debilitated Planets Part 2 – Applied Vedic Astrology

In Part 1, I discussed how debilitated planets force us to learn lessons about the values of those planets and we have to work 3 times harder to work out those issues. Yet sometimes, if we have a debilitating planet, it can help us and create challenges that become our greatest asset. If we work hard on the things we are not good at, we can excel at them. It can be visible when the planet is debilitated in D-1 chart but strong in D-9 chart. Maybe after 35-40 years we have learned to master the energy and sometimes we are not able to.
Again, looking at debilitated planets, one also has to consider which houses they have and whether they are good planets for the chart and if they are natural benefic or inauspicious. If the lord of the horoscope is debilitated, it can mean health issues or low energy. If he doesn’t have nice homes, we may have to work hard to manifest those good qualities. If it is sinful and afflicted, its deeper qualities may come to the fore.
Given that the D-9 and D-60 charts are very important for chart analysis, paying attention to the weak planets in these charts is very revealing about the hidden qualities and past life deeds from D-60.
Saturn in Aries:
Fortunately Saturn is debilitated only for 2.5 years every 29 years and this is rare but debilitated Saturn can change and influence in D-9 chart.
A retrograde, exalted Saturn can act like a debilitated Saturn according to Parashara. Aries tends to be self-willed, impulsive and undisciplined, in contrast to Saturn’s conservative, disciplined nature. Saturn in the first sign of the zodiac is the karaka place because Saturn in Aries creates fear rather than action based in the base chakra where it bases the body and builds the infrastructure.
Saturn in Aries is not conscious of the fact that it may create new karma for the future that will have to be repaid, is a bit careless about its responsibility to be moral and righteous. Therefore, the burden of karma is created for the future as the soul is not responsible. The debilitation of Saturn reminds the soul that it is always important to repay whatever it is owed to you, otherwise you are forever adding to your karmic baggage. Saturn in Aries does not take its soul responsibilities seriously. Unless it changes, this position will make more stuff than it pays back. By nature, Saturn needs careful and proper planning and should not rush into the creation of Aries. This can cause the air element to be out of balance resulting in extreme fear and anxiety.
Saturn becomes debilitated in Bharani Nakshatra, which is a very sexual constellation, as it clashes with its own natural meditative, ascetic nature. Saturn posited here can result in a strong sexual drive fueled by guilt. Saturn will delay self-esteem and gratification until it becomes successful in work and can provide security for itself and others. Being successful in Aries is very careless and undisciplined. Sometimes this leads to laziness or inertia which can then explode into anger and rash behavior.
For Capricorn: Saturn can stifle happiness and makes Capricorn impulsive risk-takers who avoid responsibilities, creating anger and depression.
For Aquarius: Aquarians can be very impulsive and tend to fight the wrong battle for their human spirit.
For Mercury: Weakness in Pisces:
Mercury is debilitated in Pisces because the idealistic and human energy of Pisces is in contrast to the philosophical and investigative intelligence. Being trapped in spiritual idealism weakens the intellect. Emotional Mercury in Pisces cannot think rationally and this puts Mercury out of its nature. The practical, earthy quality of Mercury exalted in Virgo becomes unbalanced and is not good for worldly affairs. Mercury in Pisces can cause depression, nervousness, talking too much and superficial values. The bright side of Mercury in Pisces is that it can lead to spiritual awakening and an understanding of the broader and more universal values of our existence. Still, Mercury, a practical practitioner, may not be good at handling finances when other parts of the chart are deficient.
Mercury in Pisces can be very emotional and out of its essential nature to investigate intellectually and become more caught up in the emotional unity and love of Pisces. This can lead to poor decisions and difficult choices. Yet the imaginative side of Pisces can flourish, making for great fiction, fantasy writers, or developing powerful intuition.
For Gemini: 10. weakness inth, Poor career decisions or the ability to act and make choices to boost their careers creates deep frustration for Gemini. If Mercury is not serious about work, once the fun takes off from the current job, they move on to the next job and fail to develop a meaningful career.
For Virgo: 7. low inth, Relationships lack discrimination for Virgo and can be overly emotional in their choice of attracting partners.
Therefore, they become vulnerable in relationships and bad choices, which make them very eager to try to fix or improve their partners. They can attract difficult business partners if they are too idealistic in not scrutinizing them and judging their skills. They may lack the ability to do anything practical and creative to transform their lives.
Sun in Libra:
The Sun is debilitated in Libra where it sacrifices its principles and leadership abilities to connect with people and do it together. In doing so, they sacrifice their vision and lose confidence. Here the Sun placement will work together rather than independent and will be subject to the challenges of working in groups and dealing with dissenting views and will lose their power to lead.
Although more diplomatic, people born with the Sun in Libra (October 17-November. 16) often fail to inspire or attract their power. The Sun is out of its essential nature when it is not following its spiritual dharma and does not wish to be alone and meditate and instead seeks perfection in relationships. Since the Sun is associated with Shiva and is chasing the divine to attain liberation, if it gets caught up in too much sexual intrigue in Libra, it loses the power to elevate the peace energy to enlightenment. . The Sun is debilitated in the constellation of Swati (Libra 6.40-20), one of the more material constellations of the zodiac that enjoys pleasures and material things and that leads the Sun beyond its natural element and pursuit of the highest .
Sun in Libra loses its confidence in working with others and ability to do things on its own, so it loses its power. Being rejected in a relationship and trapped in the illusion of relationships and bound by the miseries of the material world can lead to deep sorrow. A weak Sun may lack confidence that was not given from a strong father and may also lead to the power of a failed relationship and not develop a strong masculine core.
If the Sun is not afflicted by any other great affliction from Saturn, Rahu or Ketu, the positive side of the Sun in Libra can create humble souls who are able to work for the betterment of mankind in human groups and in power and ego. For Leo: If you are rising in Leo and your Sun is debilitated, you may be subject to health issues and lack the inner courage and leadership qualities to inspire others and instead become a tyrannical boss who are more interested in being right than in motivating others.
