sun, moon and egg
Everyone knows what their sun sign is. Even those who don’t ‘believe’ in astrology.
The Sun describes our personality, doesn’t it?
Yes and no.
Yes, because the Sun describes our personality, and no, because the Sun is not the only thing that describes our personality. We also have Ascendant, Moon, Planets, Houses and Aspects.
Sun, Moon, Ascendant – Big 3
Of all the different elements in our chart, the Sun, the Moon and the rising sign are the most important; He is called “The Big 3”.
“The Big 3” – Sun, Moon and Lagna – are the 3 major pillars of our birth chart and they deeply influence our personality.
But the question is, who describes whom? How is Sun different from Moon and Lagna?
Most people have some vague idea of how the Sun describes our identity, the Moon our emotions and the Ascendant – also known as the Rising Sign – our social ‘mask’. However these definitions are somewhat limited and confusing.
sun, moon and egg
If you want to understand how the Sun, Moon and Ascendant work together, think of an egg.
The egg is made up of the egg yolk (the yellow inside) and the surrounding egg white.
The yolk is the first part that is formed when the hen’s egg cells reach maturity. The egg white later forms around the yolk, which provides cushioning between the embryo and the protective shell.
We can say that the yolk is the Sun, and the white part is the Moon.
Like the sun, the yolk is the basic seed of life. However this seed needs a protective layer, a cushion, so that it can grow and develop into a life form.
The yolk and white are equally important – in fact they have similar dimensions. Similarly, the Sun and the Moon have the exact same dimensions as seen from Earth.
We are not only our sun sign. We are both our Sun and our Moon sign. One can not exist without the other.
The sun (yolk) is our root seed, our inspiration and purpose in life. We recognize this consciously.
The White (Moon) is the supportive environment – that is, our physical and psychological processes, our genetic memory, our nutrients – everything that allows us to grow and develop. Our Moon sign may be less obvious, but it affects us to the same extent as our Sun sign.
What about Ascendant?
Lagna is the shell of the egg.
Without shell, life as we know it would not be possible. Without the Ascendant, we would be energy floating in space. The Ascendant – the shell of the egg – makes things real.

When the yolk and the whites mutually mature into a new life form, the chick is ready to hatch. It breaks the eggshell, becoming a unique life form in 3D.
Similarly, our Ascendant sign is the sign that is rising on the horizon – this is what comes to life, seen and accepted in 3D.
Our ascendant sign describes the way we act in the world. We may identify less with the qualities of our Ascendant on a personal level, although the Ascendant describes how we go about things in life concretely – our behaviors, our attitudes, the way we conduct ourselves. We do.
Ascendant is the shell we wear, it is what other people first notice when they look at us.
The Ascendant is not a mask – at least not in a way that is not real. The Ascendant We is real – the sum of our attitudes and attitudes to life. The goal of Lagna is to make the Sun and Moon realistic, giving these energies a real expression in 3D.
Others are the first to see your ascendant; Then your sun sign. Only close ones (or experienced astrologers) can see your Moon sign.
Our Moon is our default behavior, our comfort zone – who we are when we relax and no one is watching. Our Moon is the part of us that is most stable and resistant to change – it’s how we instinctively act, our deepest needs, that ‘wins’ and takes precedence over everything else. .
Sun Moon Ascendant Example
Let’s say you are a Gemini rising Sun, and a Taurus Moon.
As a double Gemini, you can value curiosity, speed, and social interaction. Your Taurus Moon however likes to take things slowly. Taurus Moon is not in a hurry. How does this dynamic go? Your friends and colleagues get to see your Gemini social side. Your partner and your dog, your “don’t rush me” Taurus side.
Let’s take a real life example, Queen Elizabeth II.
She was a Capricorn Ascendant, Taurus Sun and Leo Moon.
The first thing we notice when we look at Elizabeth is her Capricorn marriage – her formality, her title, and royal status.
If we look a little closer, we also see her Taurus Sun – which is expressed through her stability, perseverance, love of tradition, and her pleasant, cooperative Taurus/Venus style.
However it is only her close family that came to know about the Leo Moon side of the Queen – her joyful, fun-loving, playful and romantic nature. When we look at the queen we see Capricorn; The real queen, when no one was watching, was a lion.
