August 2022 New and Full Moon: Full Moon in Aquarius and New Moon in Virgo



There are two interesting and challenging moons in August 2022 with Kumbh Purnima and Virgo Amavasya. What do they have for us?

What is a New Moon?

A new moon occurs when the transiting (moving) Sun and Moon are in the same position in the zodiac (called a conjunction). The new moon is associated with the beginning, has high energy and is enthusiastic.

What is a full moon?

A full moon occurs when the transiting (moving) Sun and Moon are in exactly opposite positions in the zodiac (called opposites). The full moons are related to the end, the culmination, and are emotional energy.

Full Moon in Aquarius: August 11, 2022 (9:36 PM ET / 6:36 PM PT)

May Kumbh Purnima help us to progress with our hopes and dreams. If we’ve done things right, we can get closer to where we want to be, and we can feel hopeful about where we’re headed. If we haven’t done things right, we can experience failures, and question ourselves.

We can become overly rebellious, and push back against someone or whatever we feel is holding us back. This can be great for getting out of anything that has kept us from getting better, but it can be negative if we’re not thinking about things or just being selfish or spoiled.

We tend to come together to focus on something, and may be more concerned with matters that affect all of us, the public, the collective. We can be more passionate about our causes, and want change.

This full moon is square (hard aspect, three signs away) ruler or Aquarius, Uranus, as Uranus is going retrograde on August 24th. The full moon is also widely conjunct (aligned) with Saturn in Aquarius, which is also retrograde to Uranus. Saturn square Uranus was part of the one driving so many changes in 2021, especially with people’s professional lives, and it has calmed down in 2022, but only because this aspect was not in play. It comes back, so we’re going to see a lot of professional upheaval again. The big challenge with all this is the status quo energy, and we are breaking free. Just be smart about it!

This full moon falls at 19 degree 11 minutes on Aquarius. The aspects of this full moon are:

New Moon in Virgo: August 27, 2022 (4:17 AM ET/1:17 AM PT)

The Virgo new moon is a time of super productivity, and we want to do as much as we can. We can get organized, make lists, create new routines, stick to schedules, and the more we do, the more we want to do. We can motivate ourselves to be productive, but we need to make sure we’re not going too far so that we don’t break down.

This may be the time to start new projects, small projects which can be completed quickly. All this productive energy can be helpful in establishing itself because Mercury, the natural ruler of Virgo, will soon be retrograde, and partly in this sign. Set things up now, and make it easier for yourself later.

This new moon has also been challenged, as it squares Mars in Gemini. It can mean that we have excess energy, and we can put it to good use by working extra productively and hard. Try to broadcast it in a positive way like this. Otherwise, it can mean that we get extra frustrated, get irritated easily, and may attack us. There could be more violence, so be careful. And think about the words you use, in which Mercury rules both Virgo and Gemini.

Mercury has entered its shadow zone on the 25th of Virgo – to look back and complete our transformation into Libra and Virgo
