Cancer Solstice Updates and Insights – Kelly Surtees Astrology

Since this is my first spring in our house since 2019, I am enjoying watching the garden emerge, and have been busy expanding some flower beds. The peons have been erupting since the last few weeks which is a joy. I wait for heirloom roses to pop into the spotlight as they wind down.

In the last few months I have been fortunate enough to participate in two special astrology programs.

In April 2022, Demetra George organized a five-day intensive, teaching on the ways of ancient times. I learned some new tools for prophetic astrology, and listening to Demetra’s teachings helped me delve even deeper into my understanding of some of the time tools I was already familiar with.

In May 2022 I attended NORWAC, and gave three separate presentations, including a lecture on Happiness and Pain and Nodes and Jupiter, Shadows, Suffering, Spirituality and Service: A Post on Exploring the 12th House and Trials and Conquests Conference Workshop. And the planet in loss or fall.

It was an absolute pleasure to be involved in these personalized programs after two years of connecting and sharing astrology online. That said, I noticed that the trip took me a lot more than I used to! I may be out of practice, or just become aware of my changing priorities as I grow and develop.

welcome to light

Tuesday, June 21, was the Cancer Solstice, which marks the official start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and the coldest part of winter in the Southern Hemisphere. In Ontario, this has been our hottest week to date, which seems like a fitting way to welcome the long bright days to come.

Our summer plans include a mix of practical and fun events. We’re hosting friends who will be visiting from Europe, we have a family trip to the east coast, (where my husband is from) and we’ll be getting our house ready for a major renovation that’s scheduled to start in August.

You might remember that we updated our kitchen back in 2019, and now we’re ready to update the primary bedroom with both bathrooms. This is a huge project so we are doing what we can to get organized, knowing that what lies ahead will be unknown.

For the past two weeks I’ve been in writing mode, working on a few chapters in my long-term due book on secondary progress. Now that we’re at home and more organized, I’ve been able to set a more regular writing time, so I’ll stay off that goal in the coming weeks and months.

Mercury in Gemini has also been instrumental in planning, and my learning schedule for the second half of 2022 is almost complete. Group mentoring is scheduled to start on September 7, I have a live event for members – for August 27th and a special student seminar is also in the works.

astrology training program

I had a new face in my astrology training program who will hopefully help you find your way in and through the program. You can find out more here. Our most recent intake is happening this June and there’s still time to sign up!

Solstice Gateway: Sun in Cancer

I love to note the sense of transition around the solstice.

Cancer and Makar Sankranti have long been associated with this idea of entrance. Cancer with the gates of birth and life and Capricorn with the gates of death and ascension. I recently shared a short quote from the previous keynote address on this, which you can view here.

Sun in Cancer, Venus in Gemini

This week both Sun and Venus are transiting the zodiac. Sankranti occurs when Sun enters Cancer and Venus enters Gemini on Wednesday in Eastern time.

It strikes me that both of these sign changes highlight unity and encourage connection and interaction.

Connection and wet quality

One quality of Gemini and Cancer is the wet or moist quality.

It is connective and helps to bond and bond together. Over the next few weeks, you may notice a desire to be with your people. This can include friends, family, coworkers, and more as you try to find new points of conversation and topics of common interest.

Venus in Gemini Helpful for meeting new people and sharing information and insights with a wide range of people.

Sun in Cancer Helpful for sustaining and nurturing what gives you the most life. It could be your closest inner circle of loved ones and confidants, rituals or routines that nourish your soul or simple life-affirming choices that help you move toward a more authentic lifestyle.

New Moon in Cancer

Tuesday June 28 brings Amavasya in Cancer.

This new moon forms a square to Jupiter in Aries and encourages a bold start. You may be ready to leap into a new adventure or find yourself willing to take more risks in your journey to find avenues of meaning and purpose. This Utthan Amavasya will affect two weeks from June 28 to the next full moon.

What adventure are you ready for? Do you have any exciting summer plans? Are you ready to devote more time to meaningful activities and activities?
